Agnew talked harshly to black ldrs after riots following Dr. Martin Luther King's death and 1/2 walked out. Students at black college staged sit-in at State House for reforms and he ordered them arrested. Has said police shouldn't hesitate to shoot looters if they didn't stop. Alienated by Rockefeller's indecisiveness about running. Nixon could put Agnew on ticket and repay South for support without putting Southerner on ticket.
