(Seattle: Dan Springer) The debate over sending students to private colleges and universities with public funds featured; details given about the current Washington state system which allows students to receive money to attend public universities, the problems caused by students not being allowed admittance to public universities because the schools are full, and a proposed system that would allow students who should be receiving money to attend public universities vouchers to attend private institutions. [Independent Colleges of Washington’s Violet BOYER†- claims the state has the capacity to serve an additional 10,000 students by using the proposed voucher system.] [Representative Phyllis GUTIERREZ†- says the state’s universities are not at capacity and any taxpayer money should be spent on improving them.]
