(Studio: Dan Rather) The spreading of the anti-government uprising in Haiti, where rebels seized control of the northern port city of Cap-Haitien, reported.

(Port-au-Prince, Haiti: Mark Strassmann) The continuing revolt against President Jean-Bertrand Aristide as the rebels advance toward Port-au-Prince featured; scenes shown of fighting, casualties, US Marines arriving to guard the embassy, & US citizens departing. [US citizen Jane CARTER – comments on leaving behind her adopted Haitian son.] [Haitian resident Richard MIGUEL†- favors a US peacekeeping force stepping in.] [Former Assistant Secretary of State Peter ROMERO†- says the US doesn’t need to have a failed state on its southern flanks.] Criticism of the US for its hands-off approach to Haiti noted.
