(Washington: Pierre Thomas) Supreme Court's agreement to hear the case of suspected terrorist Jose Padilla, who is being held as an "enemy combatant" without access to an attorney or to his family, featured. [June 10, 2002, Attorney General John ASHCROFT - says Padilla was a terrorist with a "dirty bomb."] [Padilla attorney Donna NEWMAN†- says Padilla is in a "legal black hole."] [Maryland law school professor Michael GREENBERGER†- says the question is whether the president can deprive an enemy combatant of access.] [Former White House associate counsel Bradford BERENSON†- cites the overriding national objective.] The other Supreme Court cases on terrorism enumerated: whether prisoners at Guantanamo Bay should have access to courts & whether Yasir Hamdi, who was captured in Afghanistan, should be removed from military custody.
