(White House: Suzanne Malveaux) President Bush's order setting up a commission to investigate intelligence failure in the war in Iraq examined; details given about panel co-chairs former Senator Chuck Robb & retired Judge Lawrence Silberman & five other commission members. [BUSH, panel member Senator John McCAIN - outline what the commission will do.] Criticism of the commission from Representative Nancy Pelosi quoted. [McCAIN - says some pre-war intelligence assessments about Iraq's weapons have not been confirmed.] The timetable for the commission report & its link to the 2004 election noted.

DIONNE†- says commissions are better at investigating technical problems as in the Challenger disaster; states the problem here is the panel is dealing with a technical & a political problem; comments on the membership of the panel, which has no real critics of executive authority or Democrats, but does have McCain, who has a maverick streak.]
