(White House: John Roberts) President Bush’s decision to appoint an independent commission to investigate the faulty intelligence used as the basis for the war in Iraq featured; photo shown of Bush meeting with former weapons investigator David Kay; details given of charges that Bush is attempting to dilute the Iraq issue by asking the panel to also investigate why weapons programs in Iran, Libya & North Korea were underestimated. [BUSH – says Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had the intent & the capabilities to cause great harm.] [Former intelligence officer Peter BROOKES†- warns against a fatal flaw in how we process intelligence.] [Senator John ROCKEFELLER†- says having everyone accountable to the president is a bad idea.] [Carnegie for International Peace Joseph CIRINCIONE†- says we can’t depend on assessments from the intelligence agencies and the administration on weapons of mass destruction.] The timetable for the commission’s report noted.
