(Studio) Reagan administration reported announcing decision to sell AWACS surveillance planes to Saudi Arabia as part of arms package , provided Congress agrees.

(DC) Today's decision, the administration's 1st major Mideast policy position, said certain to provoke reaction from Israel; White House and Israeli positions outlined on screen. First United States AWACS recalled sent to Saudi Arabia during Iran-Iraq war; extent of necessary United States involvement in Saudi Arabia if more planes are sent there mentioned. Reasons for administration delaying its efforts to seek congress approval explained.
