(Raleigh, North Carolina: Lisa Myers) The forgiveness of federal debts owed by tobacco growers in Kentucky and North Carolina after droughts and Hurricane Floyd destroyed much of the crop reported; details given of the tobacco legislation promoted by Senator Mitch McConnell and the storage of damaged tobacco at taxpayer expense. [Tobacco farmer Andy SHEPARD - says the farm community in North Carolina would have been devastated without federal intervention; says the damaged tobacco should be destroyed.] [Representative Lloyd DOGGETT - says taxpayers get no benefit.] [Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Matthew MYERS - says the government should not pay to store excess tobacco.]
