(Los Angeles: Jerry Bowen) Wildfires across several drought-stricken Western states reported; map shown of states dealing with wildfires; scenes shown of fires in New Mexico and low reservoirs in California. [Metro South Fire Rescue Taylor STEPHENS - says he is seeing types of fires he normally would not see until August.] [Rancher Clarke JONES - says he has never seen the land so dry.] [Idyllwild Water District Tom LOVEJOY - says there has been no snow melt-off.]

(New York: Jim Axelrod) The relief to dry areas in the East from rainfall reported; map shown of Eastern states declaring emergencies. [Demarest Farms owner Peter DEMAREST - says his farm is no longer suffering from the drought.] [National Weather Service drought specialist Doug LeCOMTE - says superficial appearances may make people think the drought is over, but problems still exist.] [United Water Resources, Inc., Richard HENNING - says reservoirs are filling again.]
