(El Salvador) Memorial masses for Romero today noted; films shown. His pol. activism recalled; status of Catholic Church here since his death discussed; efforts of successor Monsignor Arturo Rivera y Damas considered. Support of left by European and American missionaries and possibility that murder recently of United States nuns was work of government cited. [Father Paul SCHINDLER - notes both left and right dislike him.] Leftists' opposition to church explained.

[Reverend Stephen South GARMEY - equates Romero's fate with that of Christ.] Role of National Council of Churches in organization protest cited; ntnwide. demonstrations outlined. Protestants said joining US Conf. of Catholic Bishops in opposition; activity of both during Vietnam war recalled. Admin.'s defense of position cited. [Reverend William HOWARD - calls it an insult.]
